From the new KEC CEO Greetings!
My name is Jin-sook Kim and I’m the CEO of the Korea Expressway Corporation. I would like to first express KEC’s gratitude to the public and our users for the interest and support you have always shown.
The Korea Expressway Corporation, KEC, is your company, and has led the history of Korea’s expressway construction since our establishment in 1969.
In the beginning, there was a nationwide lack of everything - budget, equipment, materials, and technology - and people barely made ends meet. However, KEC never stopped building and maintaining Korea’s roads in the more than 50 years since then, with our first major project being construction of the Gyeongbu (Seoul to Busan) Expressway, which laid the foundation for the national economic growth.
Through the years, the total length of Korea’s expressways, which stood at only 450km in 1970, now spans approximately 5,000km, stretching in all directions across the country. These roads, laid with the public in mind, are the pride of KEC as it moves into the future.
Our key value is the public safety and protection of life. Everyone at KEC is committed to building expressways whose safety is trusted by the people. We promise to provide faster, safer, and more pleasant road transportation services through the introduction of cutting-edge technologies and improvement of aging facilities, towards realizing the safest transportation network in the world.
Never complacent with the status quo, KEC will continue to add warmth to people’s lives 24/7/365 helping make Korea an even better country to live and take full responsibility as a state-owned company for the nation’s balanced development and growth. We will create quality jobs and endeavor to carry out our public function and increase social value. We are the company of warm-hearted people contributing to the public interest and development of communities through consideration for neglected groups and mutually-beneficial relations between local communities and small - and medium-sized enterprises.
KEC is also remaking itself into a world-class road transportation service company to lead in the era of environment-friendly smart expressways and an impending reunified Korea. We will introduce “smart tolling,” which is an unmanned toll collection system, at locations across the nation and convert every expressway into a state-of-the art smart route where autonomous driving is possible. This will help propel the nation into future growth.
KEC is now laying eyes on the world beyond Korea. The future will bring non-stop innovation and challenges, and the expressways, our pride in the difficult past, will continue to bolster the nation for future generations.
